Working in Massage Room

Bowenwork

Welcome to the Sally Barton Bowenwork Web Site!

What is Bowenwork?

Bowenwork is a holistic soft-tissue release technique that helps to balance tension patterns in the body. Using the nervous system and facia, it addresses the body as a whole.

Gentle and appropriate for anyone, even babies and the elderly, this amazing technique can address even the most complicated of conditions.

How does it Work?

Most Bowen moves are direct manipulation over the belly of a muscle, although other structures are also used, such as tendons, fascia, ligaments, joints and nerves.

Muscles are full of nerve receptors. When a muscle is gently stretched and held for a few seconds (as in a Bowen move), sensory information is sent along the body’s nerve pathways to the spinal cord, and then to various areas in the brain.

To allow the brain to respond and the body to self correct, the therapist leaves the room for about two minutes between each series of moves.

Your session can be anywhere from 30 to 75 minutes. Some changes are felt right away, like reduced pain, a greater range of motion, a sense of relaxation and well-being.
